LVGSA FAQs

What is Fall Ball?

Fall Ball is a great time to focus on player development and mechanics. The fall season is typically a smaller group of players and provides an opportunity to better focus on skill development and player growth. This season is much less competitive than the Spring season. Fall ball also provides a great opportunity for both first time players and players that are moving up into a new division to acclimate and get used to new rules and the pace of the game.

My daughter has never played softball before, how will this work?

La Verne Girls Softball is the right place to start! This recreational league is a great balance of development and fun! Our teams have performed throughout the region at top levels, but everyone starts somewhere. Our youngest players begin in the 6U division where we focus on basic mechanics and good sportsmanship. As players develop, they move into the 8U division where we transition from coach pitch to player pitching. Mechanics and skills continue to develop and grow as we move from 10U-14U where girls are competing at top levels. All divisions are founded on player integrity, parent participation and having fun. Our league takes great pride in the friendships and memories that are made on the softball field.

What division will my player be assigned to?

Players are assigned to a division based upon their age. The below dates reflect Fall 2021 ages – if your player will have to move up for Spring 2022, you may want to consider playing up into the new division – this is a great time to learn and get used to the higher level of play. The league will automatically assign a player to their respective division, unless there is an alternative circumstance in which a parent is requesting that the player “play up” due to skill level. In these cases, please email [email protected] to request a move to a higher division.

Division Birth Year

6U 2015 - 2016
8U 2013 - 2014
10U 2011 - 2012
12U 2009 - 2010
14U 2007 - 2008

What is included in the registration fees?

Registration fees include the following for each player:

 Shirt
 Snack Bar Donation

Note that the fundraiser is typically a pancake breakfast, which allows for players to sell their tickets, thus earning back the up-front $50.00 cost. A $50.00 snack bar fee is also collected, however a player parent or family member may work 2-snack bar shifts to recoup the $50.00 fee.

What will be expected from me as a parent during the season?

We are proud of the softball community that we are a part of and we ask that each parent come to the field ready to support their player, support their team and be a part of growing our community. We look forward to parents to have an open mind, help their players develop and lend a hand wherever they can. For those parents looking to help, there are many opportunities including, managing a team, taking on a coaching role, team parent, board member or field maintenance help.

How often and where will we practice?

Typically, 6u teams practice one day per week. Older girls in 8U-14U typically will practice twice per week. Practices will be held at Wheeler Park. Teams will be assigned a standard practice schedule, however some variances may occur due to game conflicts and/or weather.

How often will we play games and where will we play?

Typically, teams will have one game per week, on Saturday. All division will play La Verne teams and will have some travel to other local areas such as Claremont and Diamond Bar.

What equipment does my daughter need to get started?

We recommend that all players have a pair of softball molded cleats (6U not required), a glove and a bat. All players must have a helmet with a face guard and a chin strap. 6U players need a face mask.  8U players will need a face mask if play infield.  All pitchers must wear a face mask.

Please see the fundraising and sponsorship pages.

Am I required to volunteer?

Each team needs volunteers and your support is key to ensuring a successful league for the team. Your

 Manager: Total administrative and operational responsibility for your team.
 Head Coach or Assistant Coach: Primary role is to teach the girls and assist the Manager
 Team Parent: Administrative right arm of the Manager ensuring that non-operational tasks required are supported and that the league communication loop is open to all parents.
 Scorekeeper: Maintain the game records for the team and ensure that the game publicity provides recognition to both individual girls as well as to the team (training available)
 Field Prep: Drawing baselines and equipment set-up/storage (training available)
 Team sponsor: see you team manager for details
